Designer Collaborations: Jason Wu for Target aka Why I probably will not do these Sales Anymore.

I have been incredibly revved up for this one.  Unlike Missoni for Target or Marni for H&M, neither of which I am a big fan of, I do adore Jason Wu. Based in that, I decided to put my loathing of affordably mass produced fashion collaborations aside in the hopes of obtaining some lovely Wu-wear. I had high hopes that this would be on par with the elegant Versace pieces at H&M in November of last year. Alas, disappointment strikes again! Le sigh…

The Wu collection was to be available from February 5 through March 6th. Ok, wonderful, I live a block from Target and I didn’t anticipate a long line or anything of the like (I live in the pseudo boonies). I already picked 3 complete outfits I wanted made up of 5 pieces: a white dress, 2 skirts and 2 tops [see side photo]. I was amazed as my total for the lot would come out to be about $150 bucks, give or take some change. Skip ahead… I was completely floored! Nothing appeared as it did online via the lookbook (no surprise there, I am not 6ft tall 6 pounds). Whatever, I could work it out until I tired the pieces on and inspected them a bit more. The fit was odd. Not terrible, just not the same JW fit that one gets when trying on his collections at BG, NM, blah blah blah. But the real kicker? The quality was horrible! I was so bummed. I spent the most amount of time in the store not trying on the clothing but simply wrangling ethically. I contemplated buying the items to resell via Ebay but because I loathe “those people” (the ones who grab all the good stuff and resell for insane prices) I just couldn’t go that low. Plus I figured that would be $150 bucks I could put toward something better. SO I left empty handed. Well not exactly- I did buy Caprese salad fixings and a bottle of Malbec.

I feel like I have done my time in the designer collaboration event lines. So far, only the Versace has been top quality. While I may hit a few more at H&M I don’t think I will be wasting my time with Target anymore. That is unless Balenciaga or Prada contract with them.
